We are Hiring Research Assistants

Active Action is currently recruiting Research Assistants.

Term: 4 months
Position: 2 (two)
Work Type: Volunteer
Location: Remote
Availability: 6 hours/week

Learning Opportunities:

During their tenure, Research Assistants will get the opportunity to learn some essential skills and develop competencies. Each month, our founders will host one exclusive learning session with the research assistants. The topic of these sessions are as follows:
Month 1 – How to conduct environmental scan and jurisdictional scan
Month 1 – How to prepare knowledge translation materials (infographics, videos, etc.)
Month 2 – Basic and practical project management
Month 3 – How to conduct stakeholder engagement
Month 4 – How to write grants

In addition to these sessions, our founders will hold one-on-one meetings with the Research Assistants to discuss their career aspirations and professional development.

Job Responsibilities 

Conduct Environmental and Jurisdictional Scans:
(Training will be provided on how to conduct E-scan & J-Scan as part of RA Training)

  • Perform comprehensive environmental scans to gather relevant information and insights.
  • Conduct cross-jurisdictional scans to compare and contrast policies, practices, and trends.
  • Synthesize information from various sources to inform project decisions and strategies.
  • Prepare training materials for newcomers in Canada.

Knowledge Translation:
(Training will be provided on how to prepare KT materials as part of RA Training)

  • Develop and create knowledge translation materials (i.e., infographics, posters, videos, etc.), ensuring that complex information is presentable and easily understandable by the general public.
  • Translate research findings into easily understandable information for various audiences.

Content Creation:

  • Write articles and blog posts on various relevant assigned topics.
  • Create engaging and informative posts and content for social media platforms to increase visibility and engagement.

Project Management Support:

  • Assist in various project management tasks, including planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure project goals and deadlines are met.

Stakeholder Engagement (if required):

  • Engage with stakeholders as needed to gather information, feedback, and support for projects.
  • Maintain positive relationships with stakeholders to facilitate smooth project implementation.

Grant Writing Support (if required):

  • Search for available/potential grants/funding opportunities.
  • Support grant writing efforts for funding opportunities, drafting proposals, and compiling necessary information.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of grant applications to secure funding for projects.

Requirements to apply for the position

  • Completed or currently enrolled in Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., MBBS/BDS, Health, Business, Social Sciences, Economics etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with using social media platforms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to complete tasks on quick turnaround times.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Adept in using Microsoft Office Tools
  • Experience in research is a plus.
  • Experience in making video is a plus.

If you join us as a volunteer Research Assistant, we will assign you tasks that will allow you to gain these skills.

Certificate of Recognition & Recommendation Letter

  • We provide a certificate of recognition upon completing a term. We also provide a recommendation letter, if the volunteer properly completes a term, and does a significant amount of work for the organization. Ultimately, the decision to issue a recommendation letter is made after a thorough review of the volunteer’s work and performance.
